A story

Juan Manuel Kazin

Former patient of acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
Fundación María Cecilia de ayuda al niño oncológico (Argentina)

I am Juan Manuel Kazin. I had acute lymphoblastic leukemia at the age of 15, and 5 days from writing these words it will have been eight years after the diagnosis.

Honestly, it’s hard for me to express everything I’ve been through in words. All I can say is that the disease is difficult, I’m not going to lie to you about this. It is a difficult thing that affects both the one who has it as well as the whole environment, especially family and close friends.

Think of each passing day as another day where you are closer to the goal of beating cancer. And never, never doubt that you can win, because you will win. And when you do, all that is left is to enjoy.

But as it is true that it is a difficult disease, it is also true that you can get through it. Sometimes, in the process, there may be setbacks. I had thousands of them, some products of the disease and others from outside it. But I always had a fixed goal, I always envisioned my life, what I would do when the disease ended. I made promises, some I kept and some I have yet to keep.

Today, almost 8 years later, I finished school, I am about to graduate from law school, and I find myself in a relationship in which I am very happy.

Today, almost 8 years later, I can say that I finished school, I am about to graduate from law school, and I find myself in a relationship in which I am very happy.

So, as a message I would tell you to visualize what you want to do with your life when you heal from the disease.

Think of each passing day as another day where you are closer to the goal of beating cancer. And never, never doubt that you can win, because you will win. And when you do, all that is left is to enjoy.
